BOSTON — UPDATE: The Bruins are sending multiple first-round picks to the Utah Mammoth for forward J.J. Peterka, the team announced.

Boston’s 2026 first-round pick (23rd overall) and the 2028 first-round pick (top 10 protected) were acquired by Utah on the first night of the NHL Draft.

The 2028 pick was acquired by the Bruins from the Panthers in the March 2025 Brad Marchand trade.

Peterka has four years remaining on his contract with an AAV of $7.7 million. His role with the team is unclear, but he could slot behind David Pastrnak as Boston’s No. 2 right wing.

The trade of Peterka could also impact whether the Bruins decide to re-sign Viktor Arvidsson. Arvidsson had 25 goals for Boston last season and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Both sides expressed interest in a return, but have yet to come to terms on a deal.

Boston is in discussions with the Utah Mammoth to acquire J.J. Peterka, multiple reports indicate.

Peterka, 24, spent his first four NHL seasons with the Buffalo Sabres before Utah acquired the winger in a trade in July 2025.

The speedy forward had 47 points (25 goals, 22 assists) during the 2025-26 season, a dip from his 68 points (27 goals, 41 assists) in 2024-25.

Boston’s offense could use a boost going into next year. Morgan Geekie and Pavel Zacha each eclipsed the 30-goal mark, while David Pastrnak had 29 and Viktor Arvidsson added 25. No other skater had 20 goals.
