Offensive tackle and wide receiver, in that order. Say it one-hundred times, say it one thousand times until it's committed to memory as the Cleveland Browns prepare for the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Browns are in full offensive line reset mode, and they have a chance to complete a full offensive line overhaul with their sixth overall pick. While many people, myself included, would rather have a player like Carnell Tate fall onto their roster, the reality is that the wide receiver class this year is deep, while the tackle class is shallow.
Mel Kiper's most recent mock draft has the Browns executing on that theory exactly.
At No. 6, Kiper has the Browns selecting offensive tackle Monroe Freeling from Georgia. This has been the most consensus pick for Cleveland at pick 6 ever since the NFL combine ended at the end of February. The Browns have spent the beginning of the offseason retooling their offensive line, and they can complete the retooling with the selection of Freeling.
Freeling, if he hits, has the potential to be a long-term solution at the left tackle position. He stands at a towering 6'7 and checks in at an athletic 315 pounds. He has 34.5-inch-long arms to go along with some very rare athleticism for his size.
He has only one full season as a starter under his belt, but he is a big ball of clay that hopefully can be molded into a very high-quality starter for the next decade.
At pick No. 24, Kiper has the Browns selecting wide receiver Makai Lemon from USC. This is a selection that they have to be very, very confident in. Lemon presents some high-level traits that Celveland could very well use, but it is a very risky pick. Standing at just 5-foot-11, if he proves that he can't win in tight coverage in the NFL, he will quickly become a bust. If he proves the opposite, his ceiling is Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Lemon would be a high-risk, high-reward pick. He would not be my selection at 24, and in this scenario, he is the last wide receiver on the board that has first or second-round talent, so from that perspective, it makes sense.
Mel Kiper Jr's mock draft 2.0 has the Browns finishing their offensive line restoration and adding a high-level talent to their wide receiver room. Cleveland continues to execute on their full roster rebuild.
