The Cleveland Browns currently sit with $9.6 million in salary cap space after spending big to upgrade their offensive line in NFL free agency. However, more cap relief is on the way as well.
Troy at Over the Cap, the best NFL salary cap site out there for understanding contract structures and more of your favorite team, is reporting that the Browns are getting a massive annual adjustment to their salary cap. He has stated the Browns are receiving an additional $17.8 million in cap space for the 2026 season.
This will bump the Browns up to around $27.5 million in cap space.
This money likely comes from insurance policies that the Browns took out on the contracts of quarterback Deshaun Watson and linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who both sat on big contracts and did not take a snap during the 2025 season. The Browns likely get more cap relief if we get an official retirement announcement from Owusu-Koramoah, who has had serious doubt cast on his future after suffering a neck injury in 2024.
This will help the Browns get some relief back after the contract of offensive guard Joel Bitonio was officially voided and tabbed Cleveland with $23 million in dead cap for the 2026 season. The Browns can also clear more space by restructuring the rest of the contract of cornerback Denzel Ward if they wish.
