Add Ephraim Banda to the list of former Jim Schwartz assistants who are staying on staff under the new Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator, Mike Rutenberg. Banda was one of two assistant coaches already on staff who were interviewed to replace his former boss as the team's new defensive coordinator, before Rutenberg ultimately got the job. Banada joined the Browns staff with Jim Schwartz in 2023 and has served as the safeties coach for the last three seasons.

Now, Banda is getting a promotion and will be the team's new defensive pass game coordinator in 2026 under Rutenberg. Banda got a couple of external interviews for the defensive coordinator position as well, including with New England, before they promoted Zak Kuhr.

The Dallas Cowboys also interviewed Banda for their defensive coordinator this offseason. For now, Banda remains in Cleveland, but if the Browns' defense has another good season, he could get plucked by another team to run their defense in 2027.
