The number of veteran quarterbacks left on the market for the Cleveland Browns to add in NFL free agency has dwindled after Russell Wilson signed with the New York Giants.
After he visited with the Browns to discuss a fit, Wilson is off to the Big Apple instead. Many had hinted that this was his ideal destination to begin with. However, after they signed former Browns quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year deal last week, it looked like that dream may have been shot dead in the water. Instead, the Giants will pair Wilson and Winston.
Instead, the Giants will roll into the season with both Winston and Wilson on the roster. This may take them out of the running for Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders if the Browns were to pass on him. However, this could also signify that one quarterback, Wilson, is there to compete while the other, Winston, is there to mentor the young quarterback.
What this means for the Browns, however, is that their market is now razor thin. Could they wait and trade for Kirk Cousins if they don't draft a quarterback with the No. 2 pick, then pair him with a later quarterback like Jalen Milroe? Do they just bite the bullet and take Sanders second overall? They will not roll into the season with Kenny Pickett being the only new quarterback in the room.
The Browns have been adamant they are overhauling their quarterback room, but there is still a ton of work to do so.
