The Cleveland Browns have successfully replaced Bubba Ventrone after their special teams coordinator vacated his post to take the same job with the Los Angeles Rams. Green Bay Packers' assistant special teams coordinator Byron Storer has now earned a promotion and has been named the Browns' new special teams coordinator.
Storer, a 41-year-old former NFL fullback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been coaching special teams at the NFL level since 2010. He started his career as a special teams assistant for his former team in Tampa before taking on the same role with the San Diego Chargers in 2012. With stops in Las Vegas and Green Bay with his mentor Rich Bisaccia under his belt as well, Storer finally gets the opportunity to take over his own unit.
That just leaves the defensive coordinator post for new head coach Todd Monken to fill after Jim Schwartz submitted his resignation letter (and any staff fallout that could come from that hire). They have already interviewed or requested to interview six candidates, including two internal hires in linebackers coach Jason Tarver and safeties coach Ephraim Banda.
The staff is just about filled out.
