The Cleveland Browns and general manager Andrew Berry took a hit from Browns fans yesterday after they decided to trade Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams.
Many Brown fans were furious with Berry, questioning why the team would trade its best player, and Berry offered this explanation on Tuesday.
Berry explains that Garrett was traded because the Rams made the best offer.
"I didn't expect to be up here talking about a Myles Garrett trade. This isn't my favorite thing to do, and I definitely didn't have it on my bingo card,” he said.
“In terms of the ‘why now,’ the opportunity was too great,” Berry said via Pro Football Talk. “It wasn’t like a Plan A going into the offseason. Quite honestly, we would have operated differently if it was. Sometimes things come across your path that you’re not expecting. You can’t be so dogmatic in your strategy and planning that you can’t adjust and be flexible.”
He also said he had no regrets about not making this trade two years ago and still feels all the team’s goals for this year are still on the table, although Garrett is no longer part of the Browns' puzzle.
