Browns considering 875-yard WR with No. 6 overall pick instead of OL originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Cleveland Browns are coming into the 2026 NFL Draft with a few early selections, most notably, with two first-rounders at No. 6 and 24 overall.
With two needs, one at wide receiver and the other at offensive line, it would hardly be a surprise if the Browns took one of each in Round 1. But, the big question is which position do they go first?
According to ESPN's Matt Miller, the Browns are reportedly considering going with an 875-yard WR in Ohio State's Carnell Tate, with the sixth pick instead of an OL with the top-six pick.
Browns considering Carnell Tate with No. 6 pick
"It's difficult to predict what Cleveland will do - see last year's trade back from the No. 2 pick - but chatter around the league is that wide receiver is in play at No. 6," Miller writes. "Carnell Tate (Ohio State) is the name most often associated with the Browns."
Seeing Cleveland go for a wide receiver with the sixth overall pick would not be a surprise at all. And if they did go for a receiver, taking Tate would also make the most sense.
While Jordyn Tyson and Makai Lemon could be options with the sixth pick as well, the Browns are likely better-off going with Tate, who seemingly has the safer floor.

Tyson has injury issues, and Lemon, while a productive college receiver, doesn't have the same toolset that Tate has.
The Ohio State WR had 875 yards and nine touchdowns on 51 receptions this past season for Ohio State. He's a deep threat who is 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, and would be a phenomenal pickup to add to the Browns' WR room.
If the Browns went WR with the sixth pick, their most likely option would be Tate. According to Miller, that's exactly who the Browns are linked to, as Tate is someone Browns fans should look into more, as he's a very possible pick at No. 6 overall.
