The Cleveland Browns are a long way away from figuring out who their starting QB will be for the 2026 NFL season.
The latest development for Shedeur Sanders, in the quarterback competition for Deshaun Watson, is a positive one, at least.
ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi broke down the battle in a new article on Sunday.
"Both Watson and Sanders had their moments during OTAs and minicamp," Oyefusi writes. "Watson looks healthy from not only his Achilles tear but a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery in November 2023. He appeared to be more willing to push the ball downfield than the last time he played competitive football."

It's their first year in a new offense with Todd Monken, and it sounds like Sanders has moved in the right direction.
"Sanders looked more poised in Monken's offense as time went on, and coaches lauded improvements in his footwork and processing," Oyefusi writes. "Monken, though, acknowledged it's important to evaluate Watson and Sanders in practices with pads on, a more lively pass rush and possibly even preseason games before he decides on who will start."

Sanders got some starting experience as a rookie, but it wasn't all positive. He'll need to show continued improvement, especially under a new coaching staff.
In reality, he'll probably get some starts this season, and Watson will probably get some starts this season, too.
"It would feel different if I didn't feel like their progression hadn't gotten to this point where I think they both can start and play winning football," Monken said, via ESPN. "I'm convinced of it. And I'd say it if I didn't. I mean, I can't decide now because I think both have earned the opportunity to continue to compete once we put the pads on."
There's still much to figure out, and there's a strong chance neither of these guys is the long-term answer. One of them, though, will be the answer for right now.
