One of Cleveland's most underrated additions to its roster last year was defensive back Tyson Campbell.

Campbell came to Cleveland in a trade in which the team sent Greg Newsome to Jacksonville. It was an unfortunate trade for Campbell, who went from one of the AFC's top teams to one of the NFL's worst teams. It didn't matter much to him; he came in and made an impact right away.

He quickly proved that he fits the mold of what it means to be a Cleveland Brown and showed that he has the attitude and skill to be a great Brown for a long time. As he sits here entering the 2026 season, he is a few short weeks away from becoming the Browns' top cornerback after Denzel Ward is almost assuredly dealt this year.

Campbell is a leader of the secondary and the defense, and on Monday, he had some great things to say about his potential young quarterback, Shedeur Sanders.

All reports out of day one of Browns Minicamp on Tuesday were that it was Shedeur's day. He got all of the first team reps and took advantage of them. He connected with all of his wideouts, including the youngsters, Isaiah Bond, KC Concepcion, and Denzel Boston.

Sanders hit on throws to all levels and, for the first time, looked like he had made marked improvements to the fundamentals of his game. His footwork was much improved, his processing looked a lot better, and the ball was coming out on time and accurately.

It was a solid showing, and it caught Campbell's attention. He said, "You can see the growth big time. The way he carries himself, the way he practices, he's being even more of a pro than he was last year. He's getting better and getting more comfortable making plays."

A quote like that isn't lip service. This isn't just Campbell spilling the company line of approval, but he pointed out three specific things that he got better at. One that stands out specifically is the "way he practices" part.

Veterans notice this type of stuff, and it is important to them. No one in the NFL is getting any younger, and everyone knows that having a good quarterback is the only way to win football games.

It's been a positive offseason for Sanders, and the hope is that he continues that growth through the off month and a half because he needs it. Sanders should have the opportunity to be the starter next year, but he still has to earn it. According to Campbell, he is well on his way.
