Broncos Wire's 91-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fourth-year linebacker Drew Sanders, No. 41.
Before the Broncos: Sanders (6-5, 233) found success in the college ranks, winning a national championship with Alabama in 2020, and another season with the Crimson Tide in 2021. He transferred to Arkansas in 2022 and went on to earn consensus first-team All-American honors and was the first Razorback linebacker to earn first-team honors from the Associated Press since 1964. In three years (36 games, 15 starts) of college football, Sanders totaled 136 tackles (56 solo, 80 assisted, 13.5 tackles for loss), 10.5 sacks, one interception, eight passes defensed, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Broncos tenure: Sanders was selected by the Denver Broncos in the third round (67th overall) of the 2023 NFL draft. He has played in 21 games (four starts) since being drafted by Denver. He totaled 32 total tackles (17 solo, 15 assisted, two tackles for loss), one sack and one fumble recovery in 21 games from 2023-2024 (he was limited to four games in 2024 due to injury). Last year, Sanders suffered a foot injury that caused him to miss the entire 2025 season.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Toss-up. After the linebacker missed last season, coach Sean Payton announced that Sanders will get snaps at outside linebacker in 2026. If Sanders is healthy, there will be a serious gridlock at the position with all the talent at outside linebacker. Sanders is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so he has an uncertain long-term outlook with Denver even if he makes the active roster this summer.
