The Denver Broncos are bringing back a familiar face after losing quarterback Bo Nix to a season-ending ankle injury.
The Broncos are signing veteran quarterback Ben DiNucci to their practice squad, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. He is expected to serve as their new third-string quarterback. There's no word yet on the team's corresponding move to make room for DiNucci on the practice squad.
DiNucci (6-2, 215 pounds) is a 29-year-old veteran who joined Denver in 2023 after starring in the XFL. He spent that season on the practice squad as the team's third-string QB behind Russell Wilson and Jarrett Stidham. DiNucci has spent time with three other NFL teams since then, mostly recently competing with the Atlanta Falcons during training camp last summer.
After losing Nix, Denver plans to start Jarrett Stidham in the AFC Championship game next weekend. Sam Ehlinger, who had been serving as QB3, will now be bumped up to QB2 duties. Ehlinger turned down multiple active-roster offers from other teams this season to remain with the Broncos, and he's now their primary backup.
Denver will host the AFC Championship game on Sunday, Jan. 25. The game will be nationally televised on CBS.
