Record German Olympic champions Tobias Wendl und Tobias Arlt had a mild panic before helping seal team luge gold on Thursday after being stuck in a room with no door handle.
“The Romanians were ... the first starters. And suddenly someone had the door handle from the start room in their hand, it had fallen off. For 20 seconds, we wondered how we were going to make it to the start on time,” Wendl told reporters.
But a Romanian quickly contacted a coach and the door was opened from the outside.
This allowed the Germans to secure their third luge gold at these Winter Games. In total, Wendl and Arlt are now Germany's most successful Winter Olympians, with seven golds over four Games and one bronze picked up in the men's doubles on Wednesday.
