Brockton's Dave Wedge, author of "Blood and Hate: The Untold Story of Marvelous Marvin Hagler's Battle for Glory," recently spoke about his book and Hagler's legacy at a State House event, according to a community announcement.
The event was organized by Sen. Mike Brady and Reps. Kip Diggs, a former world champion pro boxer, Kevin Honan and Rob Consalvo, according to the announcement. Members of the state boxing commission were also in attendance as well as actor/musician George Carroll (aka Slaine) from "The Town" and "Gone Baby Gone," state Rep. Sean Garballey, former Boston City Councilor John Tobin, Sen. Nick Collins and former Suffolk Sheriff Richard Rouse.
Wedge said he has donated 25 copies of the book to Brockton High School and it is now on the school’s summer reading list for students.

“It’s been an honor to share Marvelous Marvin’s story of how he overcame great personal and professional obstacles, partnered with the Petronelli Brothers, and won the world championship in 1980 in one of the ugliest examples of racism in sports history," Wedge said in the announcement. "It’s important that we recognize our rich history and teach younger generations why Brockton is known as the city of champions. I’m extremely proud to tell this inspiring story and help educate Brockton students about the sacrifices, perseverance and incredible accomplishments of Marvelous Marvin Hagler.”
