Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream picked up their first win of the 2025 WNBA season, defeating Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever 91-90 in a nail-biter at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Griner, in her second game with the Dream, led the team in scoring with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, eight rebounds and two assists.
Clark, on the other hand, tallied 27 points, five rebounds and 11 assists.
The game came down to the final seconds, with free throws playing a crucial role in the outcome. Rhyne Howard sank two clutch shots from the line with nine seconds remaining, giving Atlanta a one-point lead that ultimately sealed the win.
However, the Dream had to finish without Griner, who picked up her sixth foul of the game with 21 seconds remaining in the fourth, forcing her to watch the rest from the bench.

After the win, both Griner and Howard spoke at the postgame press conference. When a reporter asked Howard what she’s learned from Griner in late-game situations, the former Phoenix Mercury star began cracking up before jumping in with a response of her own.
"Put your hand in the cookie jar and foul out at the end," Griner commented (2:40). "That's what she learned tonight.
While Griner put up solid numbers of her own, it may have been Brionna Jones who was Atlanta's best player against the Fever. The forward tallied 19 points and 13 rebounds, locking up Aliyah Boston in the final play of the game.
Griner also picked up her first win over Clark since the former Iowa standout joined the WNBA in the 2024 draft. Last year, the 6-foot-9 center went 0-4 against Clark, including three losses with the Mercury and one in the WNBA All-Star Game.
But Clark and the Fever will have a chance to bounce back on Thursday, facing Griner and the Dream once again.
