The Tennessee Titans needed a massive overhaul this offseason, both in roster personnel and coaching staff. The coaching staff, once in shambles, is now led by head coach Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. Special teams coordinator Jim Fassel was the lone coordinator retained from 2025.

The roster changes included bringing in guys like Wan'Dale Robinson, Daniel Bellinger, Cor'Dale Flott, John Franklin-Myers, Jermaine Johnson, and more. But among all the changes to the Titans' organization, which move was the most intriguing?

The Athletic set out to name each team's most intriguing offseason move, and for the Titans, it was bringing in Brian Daboll.

Daboll looks and sounds like a head coach, and if his stop in Nashville furthers his reputation as an extraordinary grower of quarterbacks, it will be a brief stop and he will have his own team again soon. The Titans would take that trade if it means Cam Ward getting on the path to validating the No. 1 pick the organization used on him in 2025. Based on how rough that rookie season was — in admittedly subpar conditions — this would be another major achievement for Daboll. But he has to figure out how to get the best out of Ward with an offensive line that could be leaky on the interior, and despite questions about the weaponry. Wan’Dale Robinson is an old friend who will help, but is Carnell Tate ready as a rookie to take on a primary role? Is Tony Pollard still an effective 1A? Ultimately, if Ward and Daboll sync up, the Tennessee offense could be watchable for the first time in years.

After having serious success in developing Josh Allen in Buffalo, Daboll became the head coach of the New York Giants, where he was named Coach of the Year in 2022. Unfortunately, Daboll was unable to build off the success of that season, and the Giants spiraled back to the bottom of the NFC East.

Now, though, Daboll has a chance to redeem himself. If he can develop Cam Ward and help him reach his potential, he will once again be among the names floated around for head coaching opportunities.

Ward absolutely has the potential to be an elite quarterback in this league, but he needs the right coach to take him there. Daboll could be that guy, and if all works out as the Titans plan, then this team will turn heads in 2026.
