Bad Bunny’s selection as the Super Bowl halftime performer has drawn criticism from some fans ahead of Super Bowl LX.
The Puerto Rican star is headlining the February 8 show, marking a high-profile moment in his career.
Some of the backlash has focused on the fact that his music is primarily in Spanish and that he has voiced political opinions.
Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre has now explained why he does not plan to watch the official halftime show.
Brett Favre to skip Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show
Favre said he is not familiar with Bad Bunny and does not know whether his music is good or bad.
He explained that this lack of familiarity is the reason he will not be watching the NFL’s official halftime performance.
“Not familiar with Bad Bunny, so don’t know if his music is good or bad,” Favre said. “I’m just going to watch what I know.”
Favre added that he prefers artists he already listens to, naming Lee Brice and Kid Rock among the acts he plans to watch during the All-American Halftime Show instead.
He confirmed he will be tuning in to Turning Point USA’s alternative halftime broadcast rather than the NFL’s.
“Not familiar with Bad Bunny, so don’t know if his music is good or bad. I’m just going to watch what I know: Lee Brice, Kid Rock, and All-American Halftime Show.”
J Balvin sends message to NFL fans ahead of Bad Bunny’s halftime show
Colombian singer J Balvin has previously addressed fans who may not understand Bad Bunny’s Spanish-language lyrics.
The artist said language should not stop people from enjoying music and performances on a global stage.
“I learned and grew up listening to hip hop,” Balvin said. “I didn’t know what they were saying. I would just vibe with it.”
He added that fans can still connect with songs through energy, even if they don’t understand every word.
“They just gotta jump on the flavor, that’s all they gotta do.”
