Brent Crews has debuted in a NASCAR Cup Series event. On Sunday, Crews replaced Christopher Bell in the No. 20 car for Joe Gibbs Racing after the first caution in San Diego. Bell, who broke his wrist at Michigan International Speedway, wasn't able to complete all of the laps in San Diego out of safety.
While it won't officially become Crews' Cup Series debut, it marks the first of many races with Joe Gibbs Racing. The 18-year-old driver is widely considered the replacement for Denny Hamlin in the No. 11 car, as a retirement after the 2027 NASCAR season continues to be a possibility.
However, it didn't go well on Sunday. Crews' first action in a Cup Series race was cut short after the No. 20 car blew up, resulting in one point for Bell and the team. It is unclear if it was Crews' fault. Now, Joe Gibbs Racing might have Crews back in the No. 20 car for the Cup Series event at Sonoma Raceway next weekend.
