Nothing is actually easy in professional sports. On top of that, nothing has come that easily for the Cleveland Browns since The Return in 1999. Another layer on top of all that difficulty is how hard it is to find a franchise quarterback, not just for the Browns.
So, when we title something as “easy,” the quotes around it are required. In reality, the easy part is the process; the hard part is the outcome. For example, Cleveland’s 2026 NFL draft class has been lauded from here to there all offseason, but that doesn’t guarantee that the group of players will be good, let alone great.
When it comes to finding a franchise quarterback, the Browns great draft class, on top of a very good one last year, and a solid offseason changeover on the offensive line, could combine to knock the team out of position to get a top signal caller in the, reportedly, loaded 2027 NFL draft. Last year, with a bad O-line, bad QB play, tons of injuries, and questionable coaching of offense, Cleveland won five games. This year’s group should (big word) be better, with a seemingly easier schedule.
That leads us back to the “easy” buttons.
If QB Brendan Sorsby enters the NFL’s Supplemental Draft, which seems more likely at this time, the Browns could decide to risk their second-round pick in the 2027 NFL draft to select him. No one really knows where Sorsby would be selected in the Supplemental Draft, but few believe he would require a first-round pick. Cleveland’s second-round offer might just get the job done and give HC Todd Monken a redshirt year to work with the young quarterback.
Sorsby was among a myriad of top quarterback names expected to be available in the 2027 NFL draft. The Browns could choose the “easy” button of getting him with a Day 2 pick in the 2026 Supplemental Draft.
The other “easy” button to finding a franchise quarterback (whether it is best for the team or not, is a different discussion) is trading DE Myles Garrett. Rumors could pick up after June 1st, but the Philadelphia Eagles have been noted as an option, especially with the extra draft capital they are expected to get from an AJ Brown trade. Adding three first-round picks (plus) would give GM Andrew Berry the significant amount of draft capital needed to ensure the Browns can move up for a franchise quarterback.
Trading away their best player, Garrett, would also help Cleveland lose more games, likely ensuring a better draft pick in 2027.
Neither option is guaranteed to get the Browns their QB of the Future, but they are “easy” process options to try to obtain one.
If you had to pick one, a 2nd round pick for Sorsby or trading Garrett, which would you do and which gives you more hope in finding a Franchise QB? Would you make either or both moves if you were Berry?
