Stephen Vogt told reporters today that Steven Kwan will get some reps in centerfield as the Guardians try to find their best offensive alignment. This is huge for several reasons:
-If Kwan can be the team’s primary centerfield, that means Nolan Jones isn’t guaranteed a roster spot.
-Kwan has some injury issues of his own, but it was hard to imagine it being a good idea to have Chase DeLauter as the primary centerfielder given his numerous injury issues.
-Valera in LF, Kwan in CF, and DeLauter in RF with Fairchild or Martinez as the fourth outfielder and then Juan Brito as a swingman who can play out there if needed is probably the best-case scenario for this current roster.
We have been asking for it for years. Now, we may actually get to see Steven Kwan in centerfield. Also, a good time to pursue an extension with Kwan. If he can play center, he can be worth a healthy extension here.
