BREAKING: Cruz Azul crowned Liga MX champions after dramatic final win
We have a new champion in Mexico after Toluca's impressive back-to-back titles in 2025.
Cruz Azul have secured their first league title win since the Covid season of 2021, and their first title in a full campaign since 1997 after beating Pumas in the final this evening.
The two Mexico City rivals came into the second-leg level on aggregate, and they were just minutes away from heading to extra-time Sunday evening before Carlos Rotondi stepped up and dispatched the title-winning strike in the fourth minute of stoppage-time.
It was quite the capitulation from Pumas in front of a packed house at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, as they saw two men sent off in the dying minutes.
It is magic number-10 for Cruz Azul and their second title this decade after a lengthy drought in the 2000s and 2010s.
