Brazil vs. Norway history

Brazil and Norway have not met often, but their head-to-head record is one of the more unusual in international soccer.

The Selecao have never beaten Norway in a senior men's fixture, with the Scandinavians winning two and the other two of their four previous meetings ending in a draw.

Most of those games came in friendlies, but their most famous encounter was on the World Cup stage in 1998.

Norway stunned Brazil 2-1 in Marseille during the group stage of that tournament, with Tore Andre Flo and Kjetil Rekdal scoring late goals after Bebeto had put the defending champions ahead. Brazil still topped the group, while Norway advanced to the knockout rounds.

Their most recent meeting came in August 2006, when they drew 1-1 in a friendly. Now, almost two decades later, the two nations meet again with a place in the World Cup quarterfinals at stake.

Norway hold the edge in the all-time series, winning two of their four previous meetings with Brazil. The other two matches ended in 1-1 draws.

The teams have met once before at the FIFA World Cup, with Norway recording a 2-1 group-stage victory in 1998.

Last Brazil vs. Norway match

The most recent meeting between Brazil and Norway came in an international friendly at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo in August 2006.

The match finished 1-1 after Morten Gamst Pedersen gave Norway the lead early in the second half before Daniel Carvalho equalised for Brazil. The draw ensured Norway extended its unbeaten record against the Selecao.

Nearly two decades later, the two nations meet again under far greater stakes, with a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals on the line.
