With Shelby Miller trying to get things right, Rubby De La Rosa on the DL and Robbie Ray not able to go past 5 innings (along with his 4.74 ERA) we have to find someone to fill the 4 & 5 spots after Greinke, Corbin & Bradley.

Can anyone give me a good reason why Braden Shipley isn't up? He's the top prospect in our farm system and has proved plenty in the minors that he's ready for a shot.

He is 19-25 with an ERA of 3.72 and his numbers are slighter better than that this year.

3.25 ERA through 69 IP this season with a 1.18 WHIP. His AA & AAA numbers compare very favorably to Patrick Corbin's & Archie Bradley's. Is he an ace, no. Can he be a good #4 or #5, yes.

I have to agree here. He's 24 years old and pitching in the PCL isn't exactly great for development. He doesn't miss bats but his control has improved a lot. This front office is very unpredictable though so who knows.

What concerns me is they pick these guys high in the draft, but take forever, it seems, to bring them up, if ever. Instead they bring someone up that was thrown in on a trade, or who knows where they came from ?

It they are drafting people who don't make it in a year or two, maybe they should look at their drafting people/process?

I don't know, I guess I'm just really frustrated right now with the team. I had much higher expectations for them.

That is a same with all teams. How many 1st rounder's make it to the bigs? How many players in general make it? The MLB draft is a crap shoot, with the exception of maybe 10 players over the last 10 years; Harper, Trout, Strasburg, Upton, Correa, Cole and Price . I am sure I am missing a few.

I don't think Shipley is on the 40 man roster and that prevents his call up.

He's not, but he our number one prospect. I wonder is Godley is a possibility.

I can see the appeal of taking college arms over HS arms in the draft. Most of them are easier to sign and are further along in their development. It looks like Alex Young is is doing well in the Midwest League (K to BB ratio a little low). To contradict my point, Cody Reed (2nd round, 2014) looks like he is moving along just fine, dominating Midwest League and is currently in Visalia. ARZ really needs to stock up on arms in their minor league system because they lack depth unless some kids come out from under the radar.
