It was great to see my Canes finally win a bowl game!! Kaaya has been very hard to read for me and I have watched every start he has made the last three years. As far as intelligence, toughness, leadership he is a ten. He took the starting job as a true freshman and has been the leader of the team ever since. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about his work ethic and ability to learn the playbook. He is also very accountable and points the finger only at himself after losses and has never made excuses.
As far as his play on the field... Like many have stated above its been hot and cold. Look no further than last night. Couldn't get anything going the first quarter. Missed high on a number of throws. Then about midway through the second quarter he caught fire and was pretty much perfect the rest of the game.
He has good height but still needs to add weight to his frame. He moves okay in the pocket, but very slow long speed. When he gets his feet set he can zip the ball in tight windows and has velocity to throw outside the hashes. He has dealt with some of the poorest Olines in the history of the program, so he has taken some big shots. He has shown a willingness to stand in there and make the pass knowing he's about to get blown up.
The biggest concern I have with him is that he has thrown some very bad Int's. The hardest part to judge is how much of the blame is on him and how much is on the Oline, poor offensive scheme of previous staff and lack of talent at WR position. In many ways he reminds me of Carson Palmer or Eli Manning. He is not a QB that will succeed with constant pressure, but given time he can play at a pro bowl level.
