Who was the top high school girls athlete in the Fort Collins area for the 2025-26 school year?

This year featured high-level team and individual accolades for local girls athletes, including Player of the Year honors, state championships and all-state selections.
This 16-athlete bracket will feature four rounds of voting over the next two weeks. The first round of voting runs through June 7 (ending at 11:59 p.m.), and the top vote-getters in each matchup move on to the next round starting June 8.
The girls and boys brackets will continue throughout June, with the winners announced June 18-19 at coloradoan.com/sports.

Blue FCU Girls Athlete of the Year matchups
Addyson Smith (Fossil Ridge track/PSD flag football) vs. Kate Lukens (Heritage Christian cross-country/track)
The resumes:
- Smith: Swept Class 5A 100-, 200-meter dash titles with new personal-record times as Colorado's fastest sprinter this season. Also took fourth in 5A long jump. Was one of PSD flag football's top receivers during a playoff run in the program's first season, tallying 484 total yards and six touchdowns.
- Lukens: Was 2A first team all-state in cross-country and track. Finished seventh at 2A state XC meet. Took third in 2A track 2-mile, ran on Eagles runner-up 4x800 squad and placed 11th in 2-mile for excellent all-around distance seasons.
Jenna McGinnis (Windsor softball) vs. Lily Eisbrener (Timnath basketball/soccer/track)
The resumes:
- McGinnis: Arguably the top pitcher in Colorado last season, leading Wizards to second straight 4A runner-up finish. First team all-state pick, going 10-1 with 0.66 ERA, 113 Ks in 95 innings pitched while also batting .297 with three HRs and 13 RBIs in limited plate appearances.
- Eisbrener: Three-sport standout for Cubs. Started on Timnath's Final Four basketball team, led Cubs' quarterfinal soccer squad with 18 goals and seven assists and ran on runner-up 4x100 track relay unit. Was second team all-state in both soccer and track.
Kiana Cumings (Windsor track) vs. Mia Thomas (Rocky Mountain soccer/basketball)
The resumes:
- Cumings: Swept 4A state titles in 200-/400-meter dashes for second straight season, setting a new PR time in 200 victory. Went 4-for-4 at state, running on pair of relay championship squads for Wizards, who finished runner-up as a team in Class 4A.
- Thomas: Two-sport all-conference standout for Lobos, leading the soccer and basketball teams in scoring as a senior. Scored 13 goals with three assists on pitch for the playoff soccer squad. Averaged 11.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and three assists per game in winter basketball season.
Lily Sidwell (PSD field hockey/lacrosse) vs. Cody Monajjem (Wellington swimming)
The resumes:
- Sidwell: Another two-sport all-conference standout for PSD. Was first team all-state in field hockey, leading the Stars to their winningest season in program history with 11 goals and 12 assists. Had 29 goals and 15 assists for a PSD lacrosse squad that made 5A playoffs.
- Monajjem: The Eagles senior swim star won a state title for third consecutive season, this time in the 200-yard freestyle. Also finished runner-up in 100 backstroke and was named 3A Swimmer of the Year. Led Eagles relay units to a pair of top-five finishes at state.
Gracie Worsley (Windsor basketball) vs. Kaia Bennett (Rocky Mountain track and field)
The resumes:
- Worsley: Northern Conference Player of Year and 5A first team all-state selection, leading the Wizards to their sixth straight Great 8 appearance. Averaged 13 points and 9.5 rebounds per game and set Windsor's single-game rebounds record with 25 in a win over Rocky Mountain.
- Bennett: The Lobos senior got a special sendoff season. Bennett won the 5A discus state title and took runner-up in the shot put with a new personal-best throw. Won six events and placed second 10 times combined across discus and shot put events as a 5A first team all-state performer.
Annika VanDalen (Fort Collins basketball) vs. Reese Morgan (Fossil Ridge soccer)
The resumes:
- VanDalen: One of NoCo's top players and a first team all-conference selection. Led resurgent Lambkins to their first Sweet 16 since 2012, averaging 15.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
- Morgan: Class 5A Player of the Year, leading the SaberCats to second straight state soccer title. Midfielder scored walk-off, game-winning goals in Fossil's semifinal (Castle View) and championship (Mountain Vista) overtime wins. Scored seven goals with nine assists, both tied for second on Fossil's title squad.
Kensley Story (Wellington softball/track) vs. Lily Wale (Fossil Ridge soccer/track)
The resumes:
- Story: A two-sport standout, Story was a 3A second team all-state softball selection. The senior helped the Eagles make their first state tournament and semifinal appearance, hitting a team-best .540 with eight homers and 39 RBIs. Also had two top-10 finishes in 3A long/triple jumps and ran on third-place Wellington track relays as a 3A honorable mention.
- Wale: The senior forward was a primary force in driving Fossil back to another state championship with seven goals and a team-best 13 assists. Also a state track qualifier and 400-meter city track champ while running on top-five Fossil 4x800 relay at state.
Julianna Darmafall (Liberty Common wrestling) vs. CheyAnne Schrick (Timnath golf)
The resumes:
- Darmafall: The senior made history for the Eagles this winter, becoming Liberty Common's first-ever state champion (boys or girls) on the mat. Darmafall dominated the field en route to the 4A 170-pound title. State foes only scored seven points in four state matches. Won 35 matches, plus a regional title.
- Schrick: The Cubs golfer went back-to-back, firing a remarkable final-round 65 (7-under-par) to repeat as 3A state champion. Schrick also won five total titles, had a top-five scoring average (across all classifications) and led a Timnath 1-2-3 finish to run away with the 3A team championship.
