Hannah Rapp, a competitor in the World Boxing Council (WBC) women’s featherweight championship, has died. She was 26.
At around 10 a.m. local time on Saturday, July 18, Rapp was fatally hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Brazos County, Texas, the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said in a news release shared on Facebook.
“Deputies were dispatched to the 23000 block of FM 159 in reference to a major crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist,” said the BCSO. “Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had struck a bicyclist, leaving an adult female lying in the roadway.”
Rapp received medical treatment at the scene before being transported to a local hospital. “Despite lifesaving efforts, she later passed away at the hospital,” said the BCSO.

Driver Charles Medina was arrested and charged with manslaughter, according to the BCSO. Medina, 31, is accused of hitting Rapp as he reversed his vehicle while she was cycling.
“Medina passed two bicyclists traveling along FM 159. After passing the bicyclists, Mr. Medina stopped his vehicle, reversed, and struck one of the cyclists,” said the BCSO.
Medina was transported to the Brazos County Detention Center without incident. An investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing.
Indiana native Rapp became a professional boxer after relocating to College Station, Texas, in 2024. In June, she competed against Tiara Brown for the WBC women’s featherweight title at MVPW-04, which she lost after a unanimous decision, per ESPN.
The WBC said in a statement, “The entire international boxing community are deeply moved and in mourning at the painful loss of our beloved champion, Hannah Rapp ... [her] dedication and charisma left an indelible mark on the North American Boxing Federation and on the great WBC family.”

A family friend wrote on GoFundMe, “[Rapp] loved her family so incredibly much, and moving from Indiana to Texas meant distance for her friends and family. [She] was an inspiration. Even on her hardest days, she continued to bring love, laughter, and light into the lives of others.”
The fundraiser has raised almost $4,000 to support Rapp’s family with funeral costs and other unexpected expenses.

Rapp’s promoter, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), said in a statement on X, “MVP is heartbroken by the tragic passing of Hannah Rapp ... She was a gifted athlete, a valued member of the boxing community, and someone who was deeply respected by those around her.”
“Our thoughts are with Hannah’s family, friends, teammates, coaches, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We are grateful to have shared a part of her journey and will honor her memory in the weeks ahead. Rest in peace Hannah. You will be deeply missed,” MVP concluded.
Investigators believe Rapp’s death was an isolated incident.
