The Boston Celtics will not need to hire a new President of Basketball Operations, per recent reporting from CBS Sports reporter Matt Norlander. According to the CBS Sports reporter, Celtics president Brad Stevens has shot down an offer from the University of North Carolina to coach that blue blood college program.
Not even a full day removed from the news breaking that North Carolina fired their last head coach, Hubert Davis, on Tuesday, Stevens reportedly removed his name from consideration. Similar speculation and even inquiries as to whether Stevens might want to make the leap back to coaching at the NCAA level have come up when schools of a similar pedigree have had openings in the recent past.
But there has yet to be any fire to the proverbial smoke of such offers when it comes to a Stevens return to coaching at any level.
This is unsurprising given the former Butler head coach has made it known his decision to take on the President of Basketball Operations job after the exit of Danny Ainge in that role was due in part to the limited travel and other responsibilities compared to coaching.
But we also don't expect teams to stop asking any time soon, either.
