Boston Celtics' Giannis Trade Could Hinge On Bucks' Due Dilligence

Reports linking the Boston Celtics with a potential move for Giannis Antetokounmpo are starting to heat up. Multiple NBA insiders and respected analysts have all reported that Boston could be among the front-runners to land the two-time MVP. However, any deal would likely see Jaylen Brown heading in the opposite direction, likely creating the need for a third team to become involved in the trade.

While Boston arguably has the best trade package to offer the Milwaukee Bucks, their front office appears to be exploring every potential avenue. As such, we're unlikely to see a Giannis trade materialize until after the NBA Finals have concluded; after all, the New York Knicks have previously been touted as a potential destination for Giannis.

During a recent episode of the "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" podcast, host Jack Simone explained why Milwaukee's decision to wait for the Finals to end is the smart call.

"I just don't think the Bucks were ever going to make an honest trade without exhausting every possible option," Simone said. "Those possible options include the two teams still playing in the NBA finals, and it's almost irresponsible to make a trade before you can talk to the Knicks and the (San Antonio) Spurs, right? Even if the Knicks win the title, they're probably not going to make a move, but you at least have to say, 'Hey, is there any interest still here?' You have to, if you're trading a star like Giannis."

Unless the Knicks get involved and are willing to part with Karl-Anthony Towns, which, given his postseason production, seems highly unlikely, the Celtics should still boast the best trade offer. Of course, the tough part will be finding a third team that both makes sense and can appease Milwaukee's asking price.

Nevertheless, the Celtics appear to be in a strong position to acquire Giannis, assuming he'd be willing to sign a contract extension with the franchise.
