When it comes to baseball scoop wars, few are better plugged in than MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. No one is more interest in MLB insider news than baseball managers.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is no exception.

So, on Monday, Boone was clearly in his element when he had a chance to scoop Morosi - and everyone else.

In a moment of perfectly delivered misdirection, Boone managed to pull one over on Morosi. With MLB Network airing the Yankees-San Diego Padres game Monday night, Morosi met with Boone pregame with the other broadcaster. After the meeting, as he was leaving Boone's office, the manager casually asked Morosi what he’d heard about the Texas Rangers' hitting coach job.

On Sunday, the Rangers had fired Offensive Coordinator Donnie Ecker. All of baseball was curious who Texas General Manager Chris Young and manager Bruce Bochy would hire.

Morosi admitted to the Yankees' skipper he wasn’t sure and promised to let Boone know once it was announced.

Boone said to text him when he heard.

Later, when the Rangers officially made the hire, Morosi texted Boone as promised: “Let me know when it’s announced.” Boone responded with a laughing emoji.

The Rangers hired Boone's older brother, Brett Boone.

“He knew all along,” Morosi said with a laugh on MLB Network. “Aaron Boone scooped me.”

One of the reasons the Yankees value Aaron Boone so much is that he can handle the media. He understands the media and for a minute, after he retired and before he became a manager, he was part of the media.

Monday night, the Yankees' manager out-scooped the Insider.
