With the New York Mets coming off a sweep over the Cleveland Guardians, the team has been surging, though the season is likely lost amidst a disappointing year. As the Mets making the playoffs would be a miracle, one of the more disappointing aspects of the season was the performance of star Bo Bichette.
Signing a three-year, $126 million contract with New York before the season, the fanbase has been underwhelmed with Bichette’s season, as he has recorded a .257 batting average with 11 home runs and 56 RBIs. With some even thinking that Bichette being good from the get-go would have changed the fortunes of the team, the 28-year-old agrees as well.
“It hasn’t been my best season for sure,” Bichette said, according to MLB.com. “If I played better, maybe the season would be different for the team. But just focused on trying to finish strong.”

Mets’ Bo Bichette on using his contract option
As Bichette has an option on his contract with the Mets, choosing to either stay or not, he was asked about possibly using it, as he expressed expecting New York to be a better team next season.
“The way I look at it is, I think there’s no doubt this team is going to be better next year,” Bichette said. “I really believe that. There’s still a lot of talent in this room, a lot of young talent that’s really hungry, combined with guys that have been around who have done a lot of great things in this game. And then on top of that, typically when you have a season like this, people show up a little bit more motivated. So I think that this group is going to be well prepared to be better next year.”
At any rate, it remains to be seen if Bichette could end the season on a high note and carry it into next season, as the team has a 50-66 record, which puts them last in the NL East ahead of the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, starting on Friday.
