Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer was placed on the injured list on April 27 ahead of a scheduled start vs. the Boston Red Sox.
Scherzer returned from the IL to make a start on June 10 but is now heading back on the shelf.
Ironically, Wednesday's news comes hours before he was slated to start against the Red Sox.
"ROSTER MOVES: RHP Max Scherzer placed on 15-day IL (back spasms, retroactive to June 14) RHP Chad Dallas recalled from Triple-A and will be active tonight," the Blue Jays' official account posted on X.

Scherzer has been plagued by injuries over the last three seasons.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner was limited to nine starts and 43 1/3 innings pitched with the Texas Rangers in 2024 and 17 and 85 with the Blue Jays last season, respectively.
Scherzer re-signed with Toronto over the winter but has struggled in 2026, going 1-4 with a 10.23 ERA across 22 innings covering six starts.
