Yes, the Notre Dame recruiting machine is running strong. On Tuesday during an announcement ceremony on 247’s YouTube channel, 4-Star defensive end Jackson Vaughn gave his public commitment to Marcus Freeman and the 2027 Notre Dame football recruiting class.
The 6’3” 225 pound EDGE from Bergen Catholic in New Jersey, chose the Irish over his other finalists; the Miami Hurricanes, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, and South Carolina Gamecocks. He also held offers from all over the country including the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and many more from all over the country.
From 247:
View Link-Combative defensive end with the ideal pressure rate that will head to college a year early after electing to forgo his senior season.
-Spent the past two years attacking from a variety of different alignments for one of New Jersey’s top talent-producing programs.
-Will mix speed and power on the corner.
-Swipes through blockers with clubbing hands.
-Can bend and slide into open rush paths.
-Quick to sniff out counters and has the range to charge across the field.
-Already well ahead of the curve from a technical standpoint, but must continue to invest in his body and adjust to trench warfare on Saturdays.
-Projects as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level that will likely start on the outside, but could eventually offer more and more interior looks.
Vaughn is the 18th commitment for Notre Dame’s 2027 recruiting class. Even though the Irish are really solidifying another potential top 5 finish with this recruiting class, it may actually be better than what it looks like on paper right now. Vaughn, like Champ Monds, is a reclassified player. Both were Top 20 overall players in the 2028 class, so it will take a little bit of time and tape from this season to see how much they move up from their current rankings.

The Irish continue to build this team to compete for championships, and of course that means getting top talent in the trenches. The Irish are stacking some of the best talent in the country, and building depth that they can develop into stars in a few years.

Jackson Vaughn is definitely one of those recruits that, if Notre Dame is going to recruit at a high level, Marcus Freeman had to land. Honestly, the reclassifying stuff is hard to imagine given the still strict academic requirements Notre Dame has in place (mostly surrounding course load). In 2027 he’ll join some young talented defensive ends already on the roster, and will compete for rotational time on the field. After that — he’s a player that can definitely develop into an All-American type of playmaker.
WELCOME TO ND JACKSON!
