It's the offseason for most NBA teams, which means it's time to consider trade scenarios for teams that are eliminated from contention. This offseason is important for one team in particular: the Washington Wizards.
After two years of rebuilding, the Wizards are at an interesting position. With a top-6 draft pick guaranteed and some pieces that can be moved, will they swing for a big time trade or continue building the team slowly? This is the reason why the Wizards will most likely be part of trade rumors in the offseason.
Bleacher Report proposed a particularly interesting trade for the Wizards. The trade involves the Toronto Raptors, with former first-round pick RJ Barrett the target for Washington.
In the proposed trade, the Wizards will send Marcus Smart and the rights to swap second-round picks in 2026 to the Raptors. In return, the Wizards will get Barrett. It's a fascinating trade that would add some semblance of youth to Washington.

Barrett was the third overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Selected by the New York Knicks, the Canadian forward was traded to the Toronto Raptors in 2023 for OG Anunoby. In the last season, Barrett averaged a career-high 21.2 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field and 35% from deep. In addition, Barrett had 6.3 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game last season.
Despite being in the league for five years now, Barrett is still just 24 years old. He would fit the timeline of the Wizards' young core, adding a great boost to their offense and their playmaking. Giving up Smart would hurt: the veteran has emerged as a critical piece of their locker room. However, it's an interesting trade that the Wizards should, at the very least, consider.
