Buffalo Bills wide receiver Laviska Shenault joined the One Bills Live podcast recently to discuss why he chose to sign with the Bills in free agency this offseason.
Shenualt noted how good the Bills have been in recent years and how it weighed heavily into his decision.
"It's up everywhere around the building... 'playoff contender'. I think that's probably the biggest thing of it all," Shenault said. "I think this has been the best team I've been on... so I'm excited to see how it goes."
Shenault has a point. In just five years in the league, the 26-year-old has been on some remarkably bad teams. He went 1-15 with the 2020 Jacksonville Jaguars, 3-14 in 2021 with the Jaguars, and 2-15 with the 2023 Carolina Panthers.
He saw the most action of his career during the first two years (with Jacksonville), when he produced over 600 receiving yards and started at least ten games both years. In his last three seasons, however, he has combined for 368 receiving yards over six starts.
Shenault took a lesser role in Carolina in 2022 playing behind receivers DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson, and then he battled injuries in 2023. In 2024 he played for both the LA Chargers and Seattle Seahawks while recording just five catches on the season. He was waived by Seattle in December and was quickly signed by LA.
Shenault will be mixed into an interesting pot of Bills receivers this coming training camp. Behind Khalil Shakir, he joins a room that has a handful of veterans like Curtis Samuel, Josh Palmer, and Elijah Moore, and also has second-year receiver Keon Coleman.
If you assume all the above will make the roster, that leaves Shenault competing for the sixth and possibly final roster spot. If he can contribute in the return game as well as add an element to the offense, that would help his case. He has 25 kick returns in his career, including one for a touchdown.
