The Buffalo Bills needed another linebacker.
They went with someone they already know.
Buffalo signed Otis Reese IV before Thursday's training camp practice at St. John Fisher University and placed linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles on injured reserve.
It's Reese's second stint with the Bills in less than a year.
The 28-year-old linebacker spent two weeks on Buffalo's practice squad last season, signing Sept. 23 before being released Oct. 7. Reese later joined the New England Patriots' practice squad and signed a reserve/futures contract in February. New England waived him July 31.
He's back in Buffalo six days later.
The move fits something general manager Brandon Beane discussed at the beginning of training camp when talking about the importance of maintaining relationships with players who have previously spent time with the organization.
"That's our job is to keep a running list of players at each position," Beane said. "You're naturally going to lean to someone who you know has done it recently for you and had success."
Reese hasn't appeared in a regular-season game for Buffalo, but he brings NFL experience.
Reese originally signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and appeared in 20 games with five starts over two seasons. He recorded 38 tackles and one interception.
His first career interception came against the Jacksonville Jaguars in December 2024 when Reese stepped into a larger role after an injury to starting linebacker Kenneth Murray.
Reese played collegiately at Georgia and Ole Miss. He finished his career with the Rebels with 198 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and two interceptions.
He'll wear No. 30 with Buffalo.
Flannigan-Fowles' move to injured reserve opened the roster spot for Reese. Because he was placed on IR before the Bills set their initial 53-man roster, Flannigan-Fowles will not be eligible to return for Buffalo this season unless his roster status changes through an injury settlement and subsequent release.
