Former Pro Bowl edge rusher Shawne Merriman only played for the Buffalo Bills for two seasons in the early 2010s. While he only recorded two sacks total during that time period, he still has fond memories of his time with the Bills.
And now he feels that another former Chargers legend should be able to enjoy his time in Western New York...and hopefully put up better numbers.
By signing Pro Bowl edge rusher Joey Bosa this offseason, the Bills are hoping they can get quality production from a player who has battled injuries in recent years, but is still one of the better players at his position when healthy.
And that alone is the push that Merriman believes will get Bosa to play well in Buffalo.
"Going out there and playing for the Bills was probably one of the best experiences of my life. I wish every player got a chance to go out [to Buffalo] and feel that and see that...Joey's gonna see it and...it feels like you're playing for family," Merriman said, "It's the craziest thing ever.
"They love experience in that locker room. They got some young guys there and having Joey there, in that system, as a leader -- everybody's going to be looking up to him and learning from him. I wish him the best -- I think he's got a lot left in the tank."
Bosa is still only 29 years old. By no means is that old in the modern sense for edge rushers.
If he can stay healthy, he can be light years better than what Merriman became with the Bills. And that might just get Buffalo over the hump in the AFC Playoffs.
