Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane labeled criticism of the team's wide receivers group one of the "dumbest arguments" he's ever heard.
The Bills may not need more, but they might want Moore.
Buffalo brought in former second-round pick Elijah Moore for a visit on Monday, Beane confirmed Monday. Hours after Moore's visit, the Cleveland Browns used the unrestricted free agent tender on Moore, according to ESPN's Field Yates. The tender doesn't preclude Buffalo from signing him.
"Elijah Moore is here. He's a guy we've spoken to a few times leading up to the draft and we just kind of put a pin in it, just like we did several other positions and said 'hey, let's wait until the draft and see where we're at, see if he's still interested," Beane said on the One Bills Live show. "If we took a guy in the first or second round, he's probably not too interested. But we didn't and so, you know, we picked up those conversations over the weekend.
"He and his wife came up today and visited. So, we'll see. Nothing imminent today or anything like that, but a very good visit and we'll see where it goes."
The UFA tender is rarely used but allows a team to retain rights to a veteran who is an unrestricted free agent. Cleveland's tender to Moore is at 110% of his salary last season, which has a value of $3.428 million for 2025 if he doesn't sign elsewhere. If Moore remains unsigned by another team by July 22, only Cleveland can negotiate with him for the rest of the season. Moore could count toward the compensatory free agent formula if he signs with a new team.
Moore was a consensus first-team All-American at Mississippi and the New York Jets picked him No. 34 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He requested a trade during the 2022 season and was dealt to Cleveland in March 2023.
Moore, 25, has caught at least 37 passes and recorded at least 446 receiving yards in each of his four seasons. He made a career-high 61 catches for 538 yards and a touchdown with the Browns in 2024.
Moore, who can play outside or in the slot, has not been paired with an elite quarterback. These were the starting quarterbacks for the Jets and Browns in his career: Zach Wilson, Mike White, Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, P.J. Walker, Jeff Driskel, Jameis Winston and Bailey Zappe.
Moore's career 17-game averages are nearly identical to current Bills wide receiver Curtis Samuel, who Buffalo gave a three-year, $24 million contract last offseason.
Moore was high school teammates with Bills wide receiver Josh Palmer at St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida.
Moore's ran the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds at his pro day in 2021.
