The Boston Celtics stunned the NBA yesterday by trading 2026 MVP candidate Jaylen Brown for a washed Paul George and draft picks. It was a panic move unlike many in NBA history, and one Bill Simmons appears to have unintentionally precipitated -- at least in the public eye.

Back in mid-June, The Ringer founder revealed on his podcast the Celtics were willing to part with Brown in a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo trade. The Milwaukee Bucks wound up picking the Miami Heat's offer the night before the NBA Draft, however, leaving Boston in an awkward position. Brown, who led the Celtics to the No. 2 seed while Jayson Tatum spent most the season recovering from his Achilles injury, became the odd man out.

It all led to Simmons' now-infamous social media post the night before Boston dealt Brown anyway.

"This Jaylen situation can be fixed with one 3-hour dinner in the private room at Toscano’s - table for 6, the Jays, Joe Mazz, Stevens, Chisholm and Wyc," Simmons wrote on X. "The right trade isn’t there, (expletive) happened, just talk it out without agents, family and extended circle flunkies poisoning it."

So, when news of the trade broke, fans (and haters) of Simmons flocked to his social media and podcast feed to hear his thoughts. However, Simmons didn't address the topic until the morning after, and he gave a peculiar reason why.

Why did Bill Simmons have delayed reaction to Jaylen Brown trade?

Simmons said on his podcast he was getting a colonoscopy while the Celtics traded away Brown. He just woke up from anesthesia as his wife broke the news.

"I think I died," Simmons recalled thinking. "The anesthesia killed me and now I'm a dead person. And I'm just trying to process it. ... I had a camera in my (expletive), and I had Paul George rammed up my (expletive).”

Now that's the reaction the world wanted. Nobody does it better than The Podfather.
