Oklahoma State pitcher Ruby Meylan might be dialing in at the perfect time for the Cowgirls.

OSU went 4-0 last week, picking up its first sweep of a Big 12 series, and Meylan earned all four wins.

Meylan allowed one earned run over 13 ⅓ innings pitched in the three games against Utah and leads the Big 12 in earned-run average for conference games.

She has appeared in all but one of OSU’s 12 conference games, pitching a league-high 57 ⅔ innings, while no other pitcher in the conference has surpassed 44 innings.

Meylan has allowed just 10 earned runs in conference games for a 1.21 ERA, nearly half a run better than the 1.68 of Texas Tech star NiJaree Canady. Meylan also tossed her first career perfect game, against BYU in mid-March.

For the season, Meylan’s ERA has dropped to 2.29 with 136 strikeouts over 134 ⅔ innings.

Her efforts over the weekend, combined with an uptick in production from the offense, helped the Cowgirls climb a spot in this week’s Big 12 softball power rankings:

1. Texas Tech

Record: 34-2 overall, 11-1 Big 12

The Red Raiders keep rolling, having won nine straight and securing their second consecutive conference sweep over the weekend, taking three from Iowa State.

2. Arizona

Record: 27-8, 9-3

After a three-game losing streak in mid-March that included a pair of losses to Tech and another to Arizona State, the Wildcats have bounced back with a six-game winning streak in which they scored 8.5 runs per game.

3. Oklahoma State

Record: 25-10, 7-5

Infielder Karli Godwin appears to be heating up at the plate, which could be scary for opponents. The junior has raised her batting average 56 points to .327 over the last 10 games, with five of her 10 extra-base hits in that span.

4. Arizona State

Record: 28-9, 3-6

You can make a case for Arizona State in the No. 3 spot based on recently taking two of three games from the Cowgirls. But the Sun Devils’ overall package and conference record knock them down a notch.

5. Baylor

Record: 21-12, 5-4

The Bears’ pitching staff has been roughed up by high-level opponents lately with five losses in the last six games — two to Texas and three to Arizona.

6. Kansas

Record: 25-10, 6-3

Six players have hit at least five home runs in Big 12 play, and Kansas has two of them. Hailey Cripe and Ella Boyer have six bombs apiece in conference action, tied with Texas Tech’s Kaitlyn Terry and Mihyia Davis for the most.

7. Utah

Record: 25-11, 4-5

Despite getting swept by OSU, the Utes are proving their defensive capabilities. Their team ERA of 2.32 for the season is the second-best in the Big 12 behind Texas Tech.

8. UCF

Record: 28-10, 6-6

The Knights overcame a recent stretch of six losses in nine games to sweep Houston in dominant fashion with a combined score of 49-9 over the three-game set.

9. Iowa State

Record: 20-13, 3-6

The Cyclones are in a tough stretch of the schedule. They were swept by Texas Tech over the weekend and their next two Big 12 series are against Arizona and Oklahoma State.

10. BYU

Record: 11-22, 2-7

Yes, that’s an ugly record, and it’s going to get worse with a series at Texas Tech this week. But give BYU credit for playing the 13th-toughest schedule in the country.

11. Houston

Record: 17-21, 1-11

The Cougars have allowed at least eight runs in every Big 12 game this season.
