Any recommendations for online job searches? I check jobing.com regularly, as well as some specific company sites. I don't find much on careerbuilder or monster.

Anyone have any suggestions for where to look?

Vegas, baby, yeah!
I've never had any success with online searches. Headhunters are the best for my line of work.

indeed.com

It is a search engine for jobs sites. It searches all of them.

I'm looking to get back into high ed. Not sure how useful a headhunter would be, but it's definitely something I haven't yet looked into. Will do some research. Thanks for the tip!

Higher ed as in media relations, events, marking, PR at a college. I worked for over six years for a state college when I lived in Jersey and I would like to get back into that line of business.

Networking events are the way to go--online doesn't work unless you want to work in a more entry-level area, like secretarial, for example.

For more specialized jobs, especially managerial, LVG had it right--headhunters and agencies are the best.

And you definitely need to look at specific companies--they usually have their own employment listings and the competition isn't going to be as stiff. For example, there was a position at the University of Washington that I once looked into, but I got the listing from UW's website.

I use indeed.com every so often, but a lot of times, it's basically just a place to gather job listings that originally appear on Careerbuilder or Monster. Those places are the worst because you are competing with hundreds and thousands of other people.

Try a headhunter. They do a lot of networking and usually know of positions open before anyone else.

Yeah, I think you're right.

I just reached out to someone I met when I first moved here. She works at ASU and went to the same college I did back in Jersey. We got together once or twice when I first moved her, then lost touch.

One of my former bosses from Jersey also has some contacts here. She mentioned she'd arrange for an intro if I wanted, so I am going to pursue that as well.

I may pony up the $265 it costs to join the professional organization I used to belong to. It gets me some additional job postings, networking events and looks good on the resume since I am making an effort to stay current in the field.

I really need to make a change. I pursued my current field out of both choice and necessity. It is not for me. I need to go back to my previous career.

BTW, indeed.com was a nice site. Thanks, Banky!
