Countless legends of any number of sports got their starts roaming one of the state's numerous prolific high schools long before they became nationally known. From Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Julius Erving, Abby Wambach, Sandy Koufax, Jackie Robinson and countless others, New York's a state that's ever-evolving with new stars rising every day.

According to a study conducted by Niche, which accounts for survey feedback from students and parents—accounting for "reviews of athletics, number of state championships, student participation in athletics, and the number of sports offered at the school"—and data from the U.S. Department of Education, these are the top 25.
