The United States' World Cup dreams were doused by Belgium on Monday in Seattle. Belgium took a 4-1 victory as the USA was unable to advance past the Round of 16.

Belgium will play Spain on Friday in a quarterfinal at Los Angeles Stadium.

Belgium scored first. The USA countered with a goal but Belgium took the lead less than a minute later.

Disaster struck in the second half when USA goalkeeper misplayed a ball and Hans Vanaken kicked the ball past Tim Ream into an empty net.

Charles De Ketelaere scored for Belgium in the ninth and 33rd minutes. Malik Tillman had the USA goal off a free kick in the 31st. Romelu Lukaku added an insurance goal for Belgium in the 93rd minute.
