Todd McShay is one NFL draft expert who thinks the Cincinnati Bengals are locked in on Miami Hurricanes edge rusher Rueben Bain.
And now the Bengals will meet with Bain just before the draft.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Bain and the Bengals have a meeting scheduled for Friday.
Those Bengals hold the 10th pick and have been obvious candidates to take the best edge rusher available at the spot. They have first-round investments in Myles Murphy and Shemar Stewart there already, but have yet to get first-round returns on the field.
The Bengals also lost both Trey Hendrickson and Joseph Ossai in free agency. Cam Sample just left, too. They’re all-in on Murphy and Stewart, but that doesn’t mean they won’t add more as early as No. 10.
Like a prospect such as Caleb Downs, there’s no guarantee Bain actually makes it to the 10th spot. And teams like the Dallas Cowboys are apparently lurking for trades up the board, which puts the Bengals at risk of being jumped.
But the Bengals aren’t doing themselves any harm by meeting with Bain and letting that info go public. It has been obvious for some time that he could be their No. 1 guy by the time they walk to the podium.
