Bemidji finishes 7th, 9th at Brave Like Gabe invite in Perham

Aug. 23—PERHAM — Every year, the Bemidji High School cross country team travels to Perham for the Brave Like Gabe event to kick off the new season.

This year, the BHS girls took seventh place with a team score of 154. The boys finished in ninth place with a total of 178.

Chloe Derby clocked a top-10 time, finishing in 10th at 19:34.3. Claire Story was right behind her in 15th at 19:40.0.

Abigail Olson took 39th place with a time of 21:18.2. She was followed by Adeline Runnigen (22:02.2, 55th), Ivy Blumensheim (23:46.7, 66th), Olivia Birt (23:46.8, 67th) and Layney Anderson (23:47.1, 68th).

The Bemidji boys were led by Blake DeWitt, who finished 19th at 16:55.8. William Ames (17:36.0, 30th), Tanner Johnson (17:37.0, 32nd) and Caleb Knott (17:40.5, 33rd) trailed closely behind.

Kyle Millar took 40th place at 17:48.0. Deven Bentler (18:31.2) and Daniel Scherling (18:22.5) rounded out the day for the Lumberjacks in 51st and 56th place, respectively.

Perham took home first place in the team standings for both boys (66) and girls (40).
