After all the controversy leading into the game, Belgium managed to make easy work of the USMNT and had a message for the country’s president after the game.

Amid all the controversy after Donald Trump’s intervention, leading to FIFA suspending USMNT star Folarin Balogun’s red card ban, all eyes were on Belgium’s Round of 16 against them.

Belgium were understandably livid with the decision and chose to get their revenge on the field with a 4-1 win against the hosts.

Belgium’s X account tells USMNT to ‘overturn this’ after Round of 16 win

After the game, as Belgian fans around the world celebrated their team advancing to the quarter finals, the Belgium football team’s official X account had a message for Donald Trump and the USMNT.

Sharing photos of Romelu Lukaku’s celebration after scoring against them, the caption simply read, “Overturn this,” a clear reference to their push to get Folarin Balogun cleared for the game.

Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump outright confirmed that he and the White House directly reached out to FIFA President Gianni Infantino to help overturn the decision.

And when Belgium tried exercising their right to appeal the decision, their efforts were swiftly denied, with FIFA stating that they had no real authority to appeal the decision made by FIFA.

With a win over the USMNT, Belgium got a huge measure of revenge and got the chance to taunt the United States and their country’s president for intervening in the tournament.

With Trump directly influencing FIFA’s decision with the Balogun situation, many fans felt this was the most blatant display of host nation of favouritism and political influence creeping its way into the game.

As a result, many fans around the world were rooting against the United States and the USMNT during tonight’s game.
