Bekemeier leads Lady Bears past SFA in NCAA opener

AUSTIN, Tex–The Missouri State Lady Bears stepped onto the Big Dance floor.

It’s the NCAA tournament.

And its a place the Lady Bears have been 18 times in their history.

This year’s edition starts in a First Four game against Stephen F. Austin.

Missouri State was looking for its third win all-time against the LadyJacks.

The winner gets top-seeded Texas on Friday.

And the Lady Bears going inside to Lainie Douglas and it’s a 10-4 MoState start.

Then the Lady Bears go on an 11-nothing run, sparked by that Kaemyn Bekemeier three.

Faith Lee then with the long two, the Lady Bears were up 21-8.

Stephen F. Austin answers from outside, Mica Perry with the corner three, it’s 24-21 after the first quarter.

In the second Maiesha Washington gets the loose ball and the scoop shot, Lady Bears up 34-33.

End of the first half, Angel Scott, a former LadyJack, before transferring to MoState hits a three, Lady Bears up 47-43 at the half.

And in the third quarter, another three by Bekemeier, and the Lady Bears lead 58-47 in the third quarter.

Bekemier had a double, double, 22 points and 13 rebounds and the Lady Bears win 85-75 to advance to face the Longhorns.
