The newest Chicago Bear was officially introduced on Friday as tight end Colston Loveland made his way to Halas Hall for his introductory press conference. The Bears selected Loveland out of Michigan with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, giving head coach Ben Johnson a new playmaker to work with and adding to the tight end room along with Cole Kmet.
As soon as the selection was made, many fans wondered what this might mean for Kmet, one of the longest-tenured and most productive Bears players who still has a few years left on his deal. General manager Ryan Poles discussed that he liked Loveland's style of play and believes it will complement Kmet, as well as fit with the rest of the offense.
During his press conference, Loveland revealed Kmet reached out to him, and the message was simple. "He sent a nice message saying, 'Excited to get to work with you. Let's go win some games," Loveland said.
The rookie is in a somewhat similar position to that Kmet found himself in when he was drafted back in 2020, when the Bears had signed veteran Jimmy Graham a few weeks prior. Graham and Kmet became close, and Kmet made sure that Loveland felt welcome.
We'll see what the future brings, but both players will be counted on to contribute in 2025. It's good to see Loveland and Kmet starting off on the right foot.
