The Chicago Bears shocked everyone with their impressive 2025 season, where they went from worst to first (11-6), won the NFC North and won their first playoff game in 15 years under first-year head coach Ben Johnson.

While Chicago's success is reason to be optimistic about the future, Johnson is making sure his team keeps their mindset right. When asked about what the Bears can build upon next season, he bluntly explained how "there is no building off this" and taking a "back at square one" approach. But Johnson did admit that 2025 was a great start to what this team is looking to accomplish in the long run.

That message is already being felt by Johnson's team. Running back D'Andre Swift loved what his head coach had to say about approaching the 2026 season. While their success in 2025 can serve as a stepping stone, the 2026 season is all about turning a new page.

"That's everything," Swift told The Sick Podcast with Adam Rank. "We did it last year, that's over with. Definitely gotta start from ground zero and then go back to work. Every year is different. We gotta work even harder to get back to the point we were in and even go further."

After flying under-the-radar in 2025, the Bears will have a target on their back as the defending division champions playing what's technically the most difficult schedule (by opponents' wins and losses in 2025). But after overachieving in Year 1 under Johnson, and with an offseason to address some important needs on defense, there's no reason why Chicago can't make a return to the postseason.
