The biggest scare of Chicago Bears training camp up to this point came during Monday's practice when safety Coby Bryant was carted off early with what appeared to be a knee injury. Bears fans are holding their breath waiting for an update on the prized free agent acquisition of the offseason, but Bryant's teammates are optimistic that the injury isn't a serious one.
Following practice, tight end Colston Loveland spoke with the media and shared he's not too worried about Bryant. "Always sucks to see; it's part of it. But he's tough, he's a dog. "He's going to be fine," he said via Mason Williams, while also clarifying he doesn't know the full extent of the injury yet. "We're not worried about it, but I don't know. Leave that to coach Johnson."
Wide receiver Rome Odunze seemed even more optimistic than Loveland, however. Speaking to Up & Adams' Kay Adams after practice, Odunze said Bryant "should be fine," another indication this injury may not be serious.
Bryant, who signed a three-year, $40 million deal in free agency after winning Super Bowl LX with the Seattle Seahawks, was their marquee addition during the offseason. He's set to play a vital role in the secondary, along with rookie Dillon Thieneman, and has been off to a hot start ever since camp began. Losing him for an extended period of time would be a significant blow for a defense that needs as much help as it can get. Hopefully Bryant's teammates are correct and this injury turns out to be a minor issue.
