The Chicago Bears have signed exclusive rights free agent Theo Benedet to a one-year, $1 million deal, according to The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain.

Benedet, a former undrafted free agent, emerged as a contender for the starting left tackle last offseason before losing out to Braxton Jones. He eventually replaced Jones as the starter in Week 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders, and he started the next six games before suffering an injury and being replaced by rookie Ozzy Trapilo, who looked the part of a potential franchise left tackle. But Trapilo suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in the wild-card win over the Green Bay Packers.

With Trapilo's future in question, given the unknown severity of his injury and availability for the start of the 2026 season, Benedet could have an opportunity to compete for the short-term job at left tackle along an offensive line that's already set across the board with left guard Joe Thuney, center Drew Dalman, right guard Jonah Jackson and right tackle Darnell Wright.
